German Baroque and Bach
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
German Baroque and Bach · In Germany the Italian and French styles came together with Lutheran church music and a strong tradition of organists. Dieterich Buxtehude gave his famous evening concerts in Lübeck, while Johann Pachelbel and Georg Philipp Telemann wrote for church, court and city. In 1723 Johann Sebastian Bach became cantor of the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, where he wrote cantatas Sunday after Sunday, and in 1727 the Matthäus-Passion. In his hands several melodies interweave into one rich whole.
