From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Oumou Sangaré from Bamako is called the songbird of Wassoulou, after the region south of the Niger from which her music comes. Her debut album Moussolou ('women') appeared around 1989 and was an enormous success in West Africa. She sings about love and about the right of women to choose for themselves whom they marry, and she opposes child marriage and polygamy.
Listening
