Ludwig Göransson

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Ludwig Göransson (born in 1984 in Linköping) studied in Stockholm and in Los Angeles. He works both as a pop producer, for Childish Gambino among others, and as a film composer. His regular collaboration with the director Ryan Coogler began with Fruitvale Station (2013) and Creed (2015). For Black Panther (2018) he travelled to Senegal and South Africa and incorporated, among other things, the talking drum into an orchestral score with hip-hop beats. He won an Oscar for it. For The Mandalorian (2019) he combined a Western atmosphere with synthesizers. For Oppenheimer (2023) he won his second Oscar, with a score in which a solo violin takes centre stage.

Listening

Listening tip. Notice how Göransson puts one distinctive sonic element at the centre, such as the talking drum or the solo violin, and blends it with orchestra and electronics.
