Henk Temming

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Henk Temming is a Dutch singer, composer, lyricist and producer, born in 1951 in Utrecht. He grew up in the Dichterswijk district of Utrecht; his father, who was also called Henk Temming, was a professional footballer at DOS. Temming started in a hobby band with Sander van Herk, in which it soon became mostly his own songs that were played. After that band the two started Het Goede Doel, and shortly afterwards Henk Westbroek joined.

Music and breakthrough

With Het Goede Doel, Temming had a series of hits in Dutch in the 1980s, such as België and Vriendschap. He also produced the group's albums, from Tempo Doeloe (1983) to Souvenir (1989). In 1982 the two singers made the single Sinterklaas, wie kent hem niet as Henk en Henk. In 1987 Temming started the StuStuStudio in Utrecht with Van Herk. There he produced work for Linda de Mol, Paul de Leeuw, De Kast, Herman van Veen and Kinderen voor Kinderen, among others. For Linda de Mol he wrote Beethoven, for De Kast Woorden zonder woorden, among others. In 1991 he made the programme De Hulpsinterklaas for the broadcaster TROS, of which an album was also released.

Influence

Temming is above all a man behind the controls: someone who writes songs and lets others sound good. In doing so he left a considerable mark on Dutch-language pop of the 1980s and 1990s. Later he produced the music for De Vrienden van Amstel LIVE! and sat on the jury of the first season of X Factor. Since 2008 he has performed again with Westbroek as Het Goede Doel.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to België by Het Goede Doel. Notice how synthesizers and drums form the foundation and how the Dutch lyrics lie over it like a pop melody.
