From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

D-Mob · D Mob is the name under which Daniel Kojo Poku performed, a British producer and remixer born in 1963. He also used the names Dancin' Danny D and Danny D. In 1988 D Mob had a hit with We Call It Acieed, one of the singles that made acid house popular during the Second Summer of Love. The song reached number three in the British chart. The director Marek Budzynski made the video.

Music and breakthrough

In 1989 and 1990 three more British top-twenty singles followed: It Is Time to Get Funky, C'mon and Get My Love and Put Your Hands Together. The album A Little Bit of This, a Little Bit of That appeared in 1989. C'mon and Get My Love, sung by Cathy Dennis, reached number ten on the American Billboard Hot 100 in 1990 and so also found its way onto pop radio. On the American dance club chart, four songs reached number one, including We Call It Acieed and That's the Way of the World.

Influence

Dancin' Danny D also worked with Dannii Minogue and later became active as a publisher and manager. Together with Tim Blacksmith he founded the publishing company Stellar Songs, and they managed the Norwegian production team Stargate. In 2022 both men received an MBE for services to music. D Mob shows how acid house found its way from the underground into the charts.
