John Powell

John Powell werd in 1963 in Londen geboren en studeerde viool aan het Trinity College of Music. Hij schreef eerst muziek voor reclame en was assistent van Patrick Doyle. In 1997 verhuisde hij naar Los Angeles, waar Face/Off zijn eerste grote film werd. Met Harry Gregson-Williams schreef hij Antz (1998) en Chicken Run (2000). Voor The Bourne Identity (2002) maakte hij eerst een score zonder orkest, met slagwerk, gitaren en elektronica. Later kwam er een strijkerssectie bij. Die actiestijl zette hij voort in de volgende Bourne-films. Daarnaast schreef hij veel muziek voor animatiefilms, zoals Kung Fu Panda met Hans Zimmer en How to Train Your Dragon (2010), waarvoor hij een Oscarnominatie kreeg.
