Jerry Goldsmith

Jerry Goldsmith werd in 1929 in Los Angeles geboren en kreeg les van Miklós Rózsa. Hij begon bij de radio en de televisie van CBS. In de jaren zestig bracht hij modernistische technieken naar Hollywood. Voor Freud (1962) en Planet of the Apes (1968) gebruikte hij twaalftoonsreeksen, ongewone percussie en speeltechnieken als het blazen door hoorns zonder mondstuk. Chinatown (1974) kreeg een melancholieke solotrompet. Voor The Omen (1976) schreef hij een koor met Latijnse tekst en won hij zijn enige Oscar. Daarna volgden Alien (1979) en Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979). Goldsmith schreef in vrijwel elk genre en bleef tot zijn dood in 2004 op zoek naar nieuwe klanken.
