George Benson

Gitarist en zanger George Benson uit Pittsburgh speelde als jonge muzikant in het orgeltrio van Jack McDuff en nam in 1968 op met Miles Davis. Hij noemde Charlie Christian en Wes Montgomery als zijn voorbeelden op de gitaar. In 1976 bracht hij Breezin' uit, met de vocale hit This Masquerade; het album kwam bovenaan de Amerikaanse albumlijst en hielp de smooth jazz op gang. Benson zingt vaak unisono met zijn gitaarsolo mee. Give Me the Night (1980), geproduceerd door Quincy Jones, was een groot pop- en R&B-succes.
