Evan Parker

Saxofonist Evan Parker uit Bristol raakte als tiener in de ban van John Coltrane. In Londen speelde hij in het Spontaneous Music Ensemble van John Stevens en met gitarist Derek Bailey. In 1970 richtte hij met Bailey en drummer Tony Oxley het label Incus op. Parker ontwikkelde een eigen techniek op de sopraansaxofoon met circulaire ademhaling: hij ademt door zijn neus in terwijl hij blijft blazen, zodat hij minutenlang zonder onderbreking speelt. Zo ontstaan lagen van snel herhaalde patronen en boventonen. Hij speelde ook lang in het trio van Alexander von Schlippenbach, en in 2017 met het jonge Londense duo Binker and Moses.
