Simple Things is the debut of the English duo Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker, together known as Zero 7. It was released on 23 April 2001 and spent 56 weeks in the UK chart, peaking at number 28. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Five singles had already been released before the album came out, among them Destiny and In the Waiting Line.
The duo combines soul-style vocals, tinkling keyboards and classical string arrangements into a soothing sound. Guest vocalists included Sia Furler, Mozez and Sophie Barker. AllMusic gave it four stars out of five. Rolling Stone called it more jazz on acid than acid jazz, chill-out music with something to think about. Pitchfork felt it resembled Air's Moon Safari too closely. In the Waiting Line was later heard in the film Garden State.
