Enter
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Album
Within Temptation made Enter as their debut album for the label DSFA Records. A week after the contract was signed, recording began at Studio Moskou in Utrecht, with producer Lex Vogelaar of the death metal band Orphanage. The album consisted of new versions of demos and had to be finished within three weeks. Singer Sharon den Adel had a day and a half for her parts. There was little time to let the songs grow.
The sound lies between gothic metal and doom, with long instrumental passages and few lyrics. Besides Sharon den Adel's singing, you hear the raw grunts of guitarist Robert Westerholt, something the band later hardly ever did again. The lyrics deal with darkness, ghosts and war. Restless was the only single. On release the album failed to make the Dutch chart, but in 2002 it reached number 32 after all, following the success of Ice Queen.
