A-Tom-ic Jones
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
A-Tom-ic Jones is Tom Jones's second album for Decca and his third overall. It was released in 1966. The title is a pun, and the cover shows an atomic explosion in the background. Les Reed was the musical director. In the United States the record appeared with a different cover, without the explosion, because the label did not want to alarm the public.
The tracks differed there too. Four tracks were dropped to make room for two theme songs with which Jones had had success, Thunderball and Promise Her Anything. The repertoire includes Dr. Love, Face of a Loser and More. The reviewer Stephen Thomas Erlewine thought that Jones sings well, but that the material does not suit his performance. He therefore found the album weaker than the first two, and he was not surprised that it had little success.
