From the Heart

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

From the Heart is Tom Jones's third British album. It was released in 1966 on Decca and consists largely of well-known pop standards. The record was not released in North America. Parrot Records put many of the tracks together on Jones's fourth American album, Green, Green Grass of Home, named after the hit.

On the cover, Jones looks out over Pontypridd, his home town. The photograph was taken on Graig Mountain, on the path above Graig Terrace. The repertoire ranges from Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael to Leiber and Stoller and Rodgers and Hammerstein. You can hear Begin the Beguine, Georgia on My Mind, Kansas City and When I Fall in Love. Charles Blackwell, John Scott and Johnny Harris made the arrangements. Bill Price was the recording engineer.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Georgia on My Mind and notice how Jones sings a familiar standard with great power in his voice.
