Love Explosion

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Love Explosion came out at the end of 1979 and is Tina Turner's fourth solo album. It was her second since she left Ike Turner and the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. She recorded it mainly in London, while the horns were recorded in New York. The producer was Alec R. Costandinos, a major name in French disco. The album shows strong funk and disco influences. It was not released in the United States.

Two soul ballads appear on the record: I See Home and Just a Little Lovin', a song previously recorded by Dusty Springfield. Backstabbers is a mid-tempo version of the 1972 soul classic by The O'Jays. Love Explosion was released as a single in Australia, Music Keeps Me Dancin' in Europe. Because the record failed to chart, United Artists parted ways with her. Private Dancer followed in 1984.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Backstabbers, a mid-tempo cover of a soul classic, and notice how much calmer the tempo is than on a disco record.
