My Generation
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
My Generation is the debut album by the Who, released on 3 December 1965 by Brunswick. The record was made right after the singles I Can't Explain and My Generation. In the spring of 1965 recording began in the days of Maximum R&B, with covers of James Brown such as I Don't Mind and Please Please Please. Later the group opted for new songs by guitarist Pete Townshend, which were recorded in October.
The group themselves later considered the record a rush job that did not capture their live shows well. Even so, critics now call it one of the best rock albums, above all because of its hard sound, which was unusual for the time and heralded punk and heavy metal. My Generation itself is raw and aggressive, while The Kids Are Alright is a more refined pop song with chiming guitars and three-part singing. The album reached number 5 in Great Britain.
