Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned · After the tour for The Fat of the Land the group started on a new album, but the work dragged on for years: recording ran from September 1998 to April 2004. Liam Howlett at first did not like the new sound, took a break in 2000 and got going again in 2001 with producer Neil McLellan, after four months had produced nothing. He made the record almost entirely alone, with the program Propellerhead Reason on a laptop. Keith Flint and Maxim Reality do not take part, the only time in the group's history.

There is more singing than on the previous record, from guests such as Juliette Lewis, Liam and Noel Gallagher, Kool Keith and Twista. Spitfire opens as a tribute to the Second World War aircraft. The album entered at number one in England, but the reviews were mixed.
