Americana
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Americana is the fifth studio album by The Offspring and was released on 17 November 1998 on Columbia Records. After a world tour for Ixnay on the Hombre, the band started on new work in July 1998. Recording lasted about two months and took place with Dave Jerden, for the second and last time. Singer Dexter Holland did not want to make a radically different record. When a few songs about the America of 1998 were ready, the band saw a theme: a commentary on American culture, inspired by, among other things, the Jerry Springer Show.
The album entered at number two on the Billboard 200, the band's highest position, and produced the hits Pretty Fly (For a White Guy), Why Don't You Get a Job and The Kids Aren't Alright. Pretty Fly has a Latin flavour and Pay the Man is psychedelic, built without repeating sections. It had been left off the previous record because it sounded too different.
