Sold Out
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Sold Out was released in 1960 and is the third album by the American folk trio to reach number 1. It stayed there for twelve weeks and was certified gold the same year. El Matador was the first single and only just made the top forty. The album itself spent 54 weeks in that top forty, longer than any other album by the trio. The cover features the model Dolores Erickson.
The band consisted of Dave Guard, Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds and bassist David Buck Wheat, with banjo, guitars and bongos. Raspberries, Strawberries is a new version of the follow-up to the earlier hit Tom Dooley. Two songs from these sessions were released only later, on an anthology. Matt Fink of AllMusic called the album solid and pleasant to listen to, though not challenging. In 1992 and 2001 it was reissued together with String Along.
