String Along

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

String Along was released in 1960 and was the fifth consecutive studio album by the American folk trio to reach number 1 on the Billboard chart. It stayed there for ten weeks. It was also the last album by the group to reach that position. In 1962 it was certified gold, a year after Dave Guard had left the group. On this album he played the first twelve-string guitar made by Gibson.

The singles were Bad Man's Blunder and Everglades. The Escape of Old John Webb is an old English folk song that was recorded on purpose to make the trio better known in Great Britain. Producer Voyle Gilmore left the closing words Bang, you're dead of Bad Man's Blunder off the single. Bruce Eder of AllMusic considered the album the most unusual of the series and a quieter record, with Ray Charles's Leave My Woman Alone as one of its highlights.
