Desolation Boulevard

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Desolation Boulevard is the third studio album by Sweet, released in Britain in November 1974. Two distinctly different versions exist. In Europe, RCA released a version containing the song Turn It Down and the original recording of Fox on the Run. In May 1975 Capitol released a different version in the United States, with Ballroom Blitz and the single version of Fox on the Run. There the album reached twenty-fifth place.

The European version includes, among others, The Six Teens, Solid Gold Brass and Medussa, and a version of My Generation by The Who. The Man with the Golden Arm lasts almost nine minutes. Guitarist Andy Scott said that such variety proves the band never followed a fixed recipe. The cover was made by Hipgnosis, known for Pink Floyd. The photograph was taken at a rock club on Sunset Boulevard.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Fox on the Run and notice the structure and the harmony vocals. Then compare it with The Man with the Golden Arm, which lasts much longer and takes up more room.
