How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today · This third album by Suicidal Tendencies was released on 13 September 1988 on Epic Records, the first for that label. New was rhythm guitarist Mike Clark, who had previously played with singer Mike Muir in No Mercy and wrote much of the music. Bob Heathcote played bass, on this album only. It was recorded at Cherokee Studios in Hollywood under Mark Dodson.
The band left most of the punk influences behind and chose a sound that was more thrash, with longer and more complex songs and better production. Rocky George was given more room for solos. Trip at the Brain and the title track became singles that struck a chord with their target audience. Reviews were mostly positive. The album reached position 111 on the American chart, and Revolver later placed it among the essential thrash records.
