Controlled by Hatred / Feel Like Shit… Deja‐Vu

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Controlled by Hatred / Feel Like Shit… Deja‐Vu · This fourth album by Suicidal Tendencies came out on 17 October 1989 on Epic and has an unusual structure. It is divided into two invented EPs: the first four songs are called Controlled by Hatred and the remaining five Feel Like Shit… Deja‐Vu. It contains new versions of songs by No Mercy, the former band of guitarist Mike Clark, a cover of Los Cycos and two versions of How Will I Laugh Tomorrow.

Because the record contains re-recordings, it was called a compilation or double EP. Yet it counts as a studio album. The band had no permanent bassist: the bass parts were played by the guitarists Rocky George and Mike Clark. The Heavy Emotion Version of How Will I Laugh Tomorrow is almost acoustic, with a solo from George all the same. It was the first of two albums by the band to go gold.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to How Will I Laugh Tomorrow (Heavy Emotion Version) and notice how soft and almost acoustic it sounds, with a guitar solo all the same.
