Hardcore punk

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Hardcore punk · Around 1980 American bands made punk shorter, faster and harder: hardcore. Black Flag from Los Angeles, and Minor Threat and Bad Brains from Washington, played songs of less than two minutes in small venues. They released their records themselves, on labels such as SST and Dischord, and organised their own tours: do it yourself. Grunge and emo later emerged from that scene.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Straight Edge for the furious tempo, the short song and the lyrics, which are shouted rather than sung.
