Emo

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Emo began in the mid-1980s in Washington, when bands such as Rites of Spring played hardcore with personal, emotional lyrics: emotional hardcore. In the 1990s the style became more melodic. Around 2000 emo became big, with Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional and My Chemical Romance, and with a youth culture of its own of black hair, skinny trousers and eyeliner.

Listening
