Tinderbox
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Tinderbox came out on 21 April 1986 and is the seventh album by Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was the first full record with guitarist John Valentine Carruthers. The first recordings took place in May 1985 at Hansa by the Wall in Berlin. The band had rehearsed the songs for months, because the album was meant to be played live in its entirety. Cities in Dust and Candyman were released as singles.
The lyrics deal with, among other things, natural disasters and panic. The cover shows a photograph of a tornado from 1927, which had previously appeared on records by Miles Davis and Deep Purple. The song 92 Degrees begins with a clip from the film It Came from Outer Space about murders in high temperatures. Reviewers praised the sharp, full guitars and the vocals. The album reached number 13 in the United Kingdom.
