Beaucoups of Blues

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Beaucoups of Blues is Ringo Starr's second studio album, released in September 1970, five months after his solo debut Sentimental Journey. It leans on country and western and is far removed from its pop-oriented predecessor. As a Beatle he had already played with country, for example with Act Naturally and Don't Pass Me By. During the recording of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass he met pedal steel guitarist Pete Drake, and together they decided to make an album.

On 25, 26 and 27 June 1970 he recorded all the songs at Music City Recorders in Nashville, with Drake as producer and local session musicians. All the songs were written especially for him. Charlie Daniels called them typical Nashville sessions: three songs in three hours. In the United States the album reached the country chart; in Britain it did not enter the charts.
