All Things Must Pass · After the break-up of the Beatles in April 1970, George Harrison began work on what he called his first real solo album. He had for years been saving up songs that were not used with the Beatles. In the meantime he had spent time with Bob Dylan, The Band, Delaney & Bonnie and Billy Preston. Recording began in May 1970 at EMI Studios in London, with, among others, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Gary Wright and Klaus Voormann. Phil Spector was co-producer.

Spector gave the music his Wall of Sound: according to Rolling Stone it sounded like mountain peaks and wide horizons. Here the recognisable slide guitar is heard for the first time, with the spiritual themes that return in his later work. My Sweet Lord and What Is Life became hits; Isn't It a Pity and the title track had previously been left on the shelf. The album was released as a triple album, with informal jams on the third disc, and is often regarded as the best solo album by an ex-Beatle.
