Loud

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Loud was released on 12 November 2010 on Def Jam. It is Rihanna's fifth album and was recorded between February and August 2010, during her tour and the filming of the movie Battleship. In Los Angeles the record company deployed almost all the studios to bring writers and producers together. Some two hundred songs came out of this, of which eleven made the album. Producers included Stargate, The Runners and Alex da Kid.

After the dark Rated R she wanted to have fun again, with rousing, Caribbean-tinged dance music. California King Bed is a rock ballad and Man Down a reggae number. Only Girl (In the World), What's My Name? and S&M all reached number one in the United States. Only Girl (In the World) won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. Critics praised the cheerful songs and her singing, although some found the record unfocused.
