Little Criminals
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Little Criminals is the fifth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Randy Newman. Like almost all his work, it leaves the usual pop themes alone: I'll Be Home is the only love song. Newman prefers to tell stories about eccentric characters, with cynical outlooks. He wrote all the songs, conducted and played keyboards, and Michael Boddicker programmed the synthesizers. Members of the Eagles, such as Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh, played and sang along.
Opener Short People became a hit. According to Record World, Baltimore is as serious as Short People was funny. The New York Times considered it Newman's first record with as many musical jokes as verbal ones. The album reached number 8 in the 1977 Pazz & Jop Critics Poll.
