The Battle of Los Angeles
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Album
The Battle of Los Angeles · This third studio album was released on 2 November 1999 on Epic Records and was Rage Against the Machine's last album of original songs before the band split up in 2000. The music is described as rap metal and funk metal. The cover is an original piece of graffiti art by the Los Angeles street artist Joey Krebs.
The songs are politically charged. Voice of the Voiceless is about the activist and journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal and refers to a letter by Mao Zedong. For Testify and Sleep Now in the Fire, the documentary maker Michael Moore directed the videos, in which he appears himself. The album went straight to number 1 on the American Billboard 200. Guerrilla Radio won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance, and both Time and Rolling Stone declared the record the best album of 1999.
