The Battle of Los Angeles · Dit derde studioalbum verscheen op 2 november 1999 bij Epic Records en was het laatste album met eigen nummers van Rage Against the Machine voor de band in 2000 uit elkaar ging. De muziek wordt omschreven als rap metal en funk metal. De hoes is een origineel graffitiwerk van de Los Angelese straatkunstenaar Joey Krebs.

De nummers zijn politiek geladen. Voice of the Voiceless gaat over de activist en journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal en verwijst naar een brief van Mao Zedong. Voor Testify en Sleep Now in the Fire maakte documentairemaker Michael Moore de videoclips, waarin hij zelf te zien is. Het album kwam direct op nummer 1 in de Amerikaanse Billboard 200. Guerrilla Radio won een Grammy voor Best Hard Rock Performance en zowel Time als Rolling Stone riep de plaat uit tot het beste album van 1999.
