Obscured by Clouds
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Obscured by Clouds is the soundtrack to the French film La Vallée by Barbet Schroeder. Pink Floyd recorded the music in France in 1972, in two sessions during a busy touring period, while the group was already working on The Dark Side of the Moon. The tracks are short and concise, unlike the long instrumental pieces of other records. Several tracks show a country influence, mainly through the acoustic guitar, and Wright uses the VCS 3 synthesizer.
Free Four, written by Roger Waters and about the death of his father in the war, was the only single. The album reached number six in England. Critics and fans are divided.
