Love Will Find a Way

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The saxophonist Pharoah Sanders recorded Love Will Find a Way in 1977 in Burbank, California. The album was released in 1978 on Arista, his first for that label, and was produced by Norman Connors. He plays with a large group of musicians, including drummers James Gadson and Lenny White, guitarists David T. Walker and Wah Wah Watson and the singer Phyllis Hyman, who sings on three tracks. It also includes Got to Give It Up, a song by Marvin Gaye.

The album was a step towards more commercial music. According to the writer Tom Terrell it became a quiet storm classic and made the saxophonist the successor to Grover Washington Jr. Billboard called the music soothing. The Ottawa Citizen found the idea friendly, but felt that he did not sound at home in it.
