Error in the System

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Error in the System is the English-language debut of the German singer and songwriter Peter Schilling. It was released on 24 March 1983 on Elektra Records, alongside a German-language counterpart titled Fehler im System. In several parts of the world both versions were sold together as a box set.

The best-known song is Major Tom (Coming Home), the English version of Major Tom (Völlig losgelöst). The German version reached number one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and number two in the Dutch Top 40. The English version reached the top fifteen in New Zealand and the United States and the top fifty in Great Britain. In the United States it was his only top forty entry, which is why he is regarded there as a one-hit wonder.

Listening

Listening tip. In Major Tom (Coming Home), listen to how the astronaut's story is told, and notice that Schilling does all the vocals himself.
