Kom van dat dak af

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song

On 8 January 1960 Kom van dat dak af was released by Peter en zijn Rockets, the band of Peter Koelewijn from Eindhoven. It is regarded as the first Dutch-language rock 'n' roll record. Koelewijn took his example from Chuck Berry and Little Richard. The radio presenter Co de Kloet played the song three times in a single broadcast of Tijd voor Teenagers, and it became a number 1 hit. Rock in one's own language turned out to be possible.

Listening

Listening tip. Hear the driving boogie-woogie piano and the Dutch lyrics that go just as fast as American rock 'n' roll.
