OVO

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

OVO is a soundtrack album from 2000, commissioned for the Millennium Dome Show, a multimedia spectacle that was performed 999 times that year in the Millennium Dome in Greenwich. Peter Gabriel thought he would work on it for half a year, but it took two years, and his own album Up had to wait for it. Creative director Mark Fisher had asked him. The project's bad reputation did not put him off: the controversy attracted him instead.

Unlike usual, he left part of the singing to others, such as Elizabeth Fraser, Richie Havens and Paul Buchanan. In The Story of OVO, Neneh Cherry and the rapper Rasco tell the story, deliberately chosen as rap to appeal to children. Low Light has Gaelic singing by Iarla Ó Lionáird and a ney flute. The Tower That Ate People rests on an electronic groove and a distorted flute riff.
