Millennium
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Millennium was the long-awaited follow-up to two successful albums from 1997. The group brought a lawsuit against their manager Lou Pearlman, because they felt they were earning next to nothing from their work, and left his management in September 1998. Kevin Richardson lost two relatives, Brian Littrell underwent heart surgery, Howie Dorough lost his sister and the producer Denniz Pop died. The record was first titled Larger than Life. It was released on 18 May 1999.
I Want It That Way, the first single, is regarded as the group's best-known song. Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely was praised for the way the voices of the five singers blend together. Critics were divided over the record as a whole: some thought it an album of its moment, others found it manufactured and too slick. It became one of the best-selling albums ever, and the accompanying tour was among the fastest-grossing ever.
