Comes a Time
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
After the success of Harvest in 1972, Neil Young did not want to remain the image of the sensitive singer-songwriter, and for years he made records in widely differing styles. With Comes a Time he returned to a romantic folk style. The first sessions took place in September 1977 in Florida, where he recorded almost everything alone with acoustic guitars. When Reprise boss Mo Ostin asked for rhythm tracks, sessions followed in November in Nashville with a full band, including musicians from Harvest.
Nicolette Larson sings along on most of the songs. On five tracks more than thirty musicians play, which gives a country wall of sound. Lotta Love and Look Out for My Love date from 1976, with Crazy Horse. Many songs are about relationships, such as Already One, about Carrie Snodgress and their son. He himself calls it one of his best albums. Four Strong Winds closes the album, a cover of the Canadian folk song by Ian and Sylvia.
