Kill 'Em All
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Album
Kill 'Em All · Metallica was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield. The band moved to San Francisco to get bassist Cliff Burton. The demo No Life 'til Leather caught the attention of Jon Zazula, who started the label Megaforce Records and put up 15,000 dollars for the recording. Guitarist Dave Mustaine, who co-wrote some of the songs, was fired shortly before the recording and replaced by Kirk Hammett. In May 1983 the band recorded the album with producer Paul Curcio in Rochester, New York. The title Metal Up Your Ass was changed on Zazula's advice.
The album brought a faster and more aggressive style than the rock music of the early 1980s. Whiplash and Jump in the Fire were the singles. It was well received on release and is now regarded as groundbreaking for thrash metal. It inspired later bands.
