Jump

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song

At the end of 1983, Van Halen's Jump was released, the band of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, one of the most influential guitarists of his time. It was he, of all people, who played the riff of Jump on a synthesizer, an Oberheim, instead of on the guitar. For some of the fans that was betrayal. Jump became the band's biggest hit, and their only number one in America. Once again the same question: adapt or stay true?

Listening

Listening tip. The riff does not come from the guitar, but from the Oberheim synthesizer. Only in the middle does the short, lightning-fast guitar solo arrive.
