…And Justice for All

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

…And Justice for All · ...And Justice for All is Metallica's fourth studio album and was released on 7 September 1988 on Elektra Records. It is the first record with bassist Jason Newsted, after Cliff Burton died in 1986. Burton is credited posthumously as co-writer of To Live Is to Die. Recording took four months at One on One Recording Studios in Los Angeles, with producer Flemming Rasmussen. A first attempt with Mike Clink did not go well.

The music is fast and complex, with long tracks, many changing riffs and little verse and chorus structure. The lyrics deal with political and legal injustice, corruption, censorship and war. One, with the band's first music video, received a great deal of airplay. Critics praised the depth, but criticised the dry mix and the almost inaudible bass guitar. In 1989 the record was nominated for a Grammy.
