infra

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

infra · Infra was released on 19 July 2010 on FatCat Records and reissued by Deutsche Grammophon in 2014. Max Richter, a composer of neoclassical music, plays piano and electronics himself and mixed the record. Two violins, a viola and two cellos accompany him. The sleeve comes from the backdrop of the production of the same name by The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House in London in 2008.

The album received mostly positive reviews and averaged 77 on Metacritic from 14 reviews. Joe Tangari of Pitchfork wrote that even without knowledge of its origins, Infra is an enveloping and moving work. In his view it is some of Richter's best music, and every listener brings their own feeling to it. The tracks are titled Infra or Journey, numbered throughout the record.
