Seasons End
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Seasons End was released in 1989 and is the first album with singer Steve Hogarth, after Fish left the band at the end of 1988. The group looked for a new singer while already writing the album. As a result, the music was largely finished before Hogarth arrived. He contributed only partly to Easter and The Space. Many of the lyrics were written by John Helmer. The producer was Nick Davis, and the band recorded at Outside Studios in Oxfordshire.
Unlike on the two previous albums, the lyrics do not form a continuous story. The King of Sunset Town refers to the crushing of the protests in Tiananmen Square, Easter is about the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and Berlin about the divided city, whose Wall fell a few weeks after the album came out. The album reached number seven in the UK. A Kerrang! critic felt that Hogarth had a voice of his own.
