Fugazi

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Fugazi is Marillion's second studio album, released in 1984. Nick Tauber produced it, and it was recorded in various studios between November 1983 and February 1984. The band was behind schedule and EMI was applying pressure. After the dismissal of Mick Pointer, several drummers had come and gone, and Ian Mosley was the first drummer to play on this album. The tour began before the record was finished.

According to AllMusic, the album sounds more direct and more like hard rock than the previous one. Reviewers single out Assassing, Incubus and Fugazi, songs that remained concert favourites for years. Punch and Judy and Assassing became hits, and the album reached the British top five and went gold. Guitarist Steve Rothery later felt that the guitars sounded too bright. Mark Wilkinson's sleeve was named by Gigwise as one of the best album covers of all time.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Assassing and notice how bright and glossy the sound is, something guitarist Rothery later found too bright.
