Mal/2
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Mal/2 was released in November 1957 on Prestige. Mal Waldron recorded the album at the Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, on 19 April and 17 May 1957, with a strong line-up. John Coltrane plays tenor sax, and Jackie McLean, Idrees Sulieman and Bill Hardman, among others, also take part.
The record contains Waldron's own compositions, such as J.M.'s Dream Doll and One by One, alongside standards such as From This Moment On and The Way You Look Tonight. According to AllMusic, the arrangements sound original and the record stands far above the many ordinary, blues-oriented hard bop albums of the period. The CD reissue added two tracks that had previously appeared on The Dealers.
