Inside Hi-Fi
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Inside Hi-Fi was released in 1956 by Atlantic and contains the first recording on which Lee Konitz plays tenor saxophone, alongside his usual alto saxophone. The eight tracks feature two accompanying groups. In the first four we hear the guitarist Billy Bauer and the bassist Arnold Fishkin, in the last four the pianist Sal Mosca and the bassist Peter Ind. The drummer Dick Scott is heard on all tracks, under his pseudonym Tox Drohar.
Konitz himself wrote Kary's Trance and Cork 'n' Bib, and Peter Ind contributed Nesuhi's Instant. The rest consists of standards such as Everything Happens to Me, All of Me, Star Eyes and Indiana. Scott Yanow of AllMusic finds all eight performances well played and swinging.
