Into Somethin’
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Into Somethin’ · Into Somethin' from 1965 was the debut of the jazz organist Larry Young on the Blue Note label. He plays in a quartet with the tenor saxophonist Sam Rivers, the guitarist Grant Green and the drummer Elvin Jones. He had already recorded with Green and Jones, on records under the guitarist's name, so the collaboration was not new.
The album contains five tracks, almost all by Young himself. Plaza De Toros is the exception: Green wrote that one. The longest pieces, Tyrone and Plaza De Toros, both last almost ten minutes, so there is ample time for soloing. Sam Rivers is heard on the first four tracks, but not on Ritha. The 1998 CD reissue adds an alternative version of Ritha.
