Groove Street
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Groove Street was recorded in 1962 and released on the Prestige label. It is an album by the jazz organist Larry Young, who here plays in a quartet with the tenor saxophonist Bill Leslie, the guitarist Thornel Schwartz and the drummer Jimmie Smith. The record has five tracks. Two of them are standards by other composers, I Found a New Baby and Sweet Lorraine. Young wrote the rest himself, including the title track and the longest piece, Gettin' into It, which lasts more than fourteen minutes.
AllMusic gave the album three stars. According to that review, nothing of real substance happens, but fans of Jimmy Smith will enjoy the similar style that Young had at that time.
