Chromatica

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Chromatica is Lady Gaga's fifth solo album, released on 29 May 2020. After the subdued records Joanne and A Star Is Born, she returned to dance music, inspired by early 1990s house. She recorded most of it with BloodPop in her own studio in the Hollywood Hills and at Henson Recording Studios. The record is a concept album about happiness and healing, with lyrics about failed loves and mental struggles. Morgan Kibby wrote three orchestral interludes, recorded with a 26-piece orchestra.

Ariana Grande sings on Rain on Me, Blackpink on Sour Candy and Elton John on Sine from Above. Rain on Me became her fifth number one on the American Hot 100, and the album reached the top of the Billboard 200. Critics praised the craftsmanship and the approach to the subject, although some liked the house sounds less.
