Celebrate Me Home

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Celebrate Me Home is Kenny Loggins's first solo album and was released on 13 April 1977 by Columbia Records. It was his first record since the break-up of Loggins and Messina in 1976. Phil Ramone and the jazz keyboardist Bob James produced the album, and well-known session musicians such as Lee Ritenour, Steve Gadd and Eric Gale played on it.

The sound shifts from folk rock towards smoother soft rock. Two singles were released. I Believe In Love reached number 66 in the American chart and had been sung a year earlier by Barbra Streisand for the film A Star Is Born. The title song came out in late 1977 and at first failed to chart, but it became a Christmas-season fixture on the radio. The album reached number 27 and went platinum.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Celebrate Me Home and notice the warm, smooth sound of the band over which Loggins's voice lies.
